Holgate Old Carriage Works, York
FHP were appointed by Network Rail to design a new HV and LV Distribution system and to perform the rationalisation of electrical services and provide a lighting scheme which would provide a versatile and adaptable installation to the existing rail depot located on the outskirts of York.
The project area is a functioning maintenance depot which is to be brought back in to full use over the coming years. Our duties involved the establishment of ownership with regard to the HV equipment and buried cables in the curtilage of the site, to establish the existing and proposed load requirements and design a system which shall meet the needs of the future use of the site.
The design carried out established the load requirements at various parts of the depot and the requirement for size and duty of the HV transformers and switchgear, a total of four substations providing 3.7 MVA across the site were incorporated in the design, while utilising a separate incoming HV service to make up the shortfall in Maximum demand. Whole life costing for the lighting scheme was carried out to establish the most cost effective scheme for the client.
