Project Cobalt Data Centre
FHP were appointed by the Principal Contractor to undertake the detailed, coordinated design of the M&E Services for this Data Centre, having a Hall size of 1100m2, this being the first of four halls of similar size.
The aspiration is to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating with the M&E Services designed to achieve Tier lll Concurrently Maintainable resilience, together with a PUE below 1.35.
Each Hall is designed in to be split into two equal halves, increasing the flexibility of operation and levels of resilience in the event of component or plant failure.
The design load for the Data Halls is 1,500 w/m2 with hot and cold aisle containment having CRAC corridors on each side of the Hall.
Using state of the art computer software, FHP developed the detail design to fully coordinate the M&E Services with the fabric and structural elements, whilst ensuring full maintenance access, essential in such a critical operating environment. FHP also worked closely with the Contractor in facilitating the offsite fabrication of considerable elements of the installations to reduce site installation time whilst improving quality.
