Siemens – Wind Turbine Assembly Facility, Hull
FHP were appointed by Siemens Technologies to develop the strategic design concept for this large Wind Turbine Assembly plant to be located at Alexandra Dock, Hull.
The development consists of a number of buildings, including
- Main Assembly facility, approx 25,000m2
- 3 Storey Offices, approx 2,750m2
- Vessell Crew and Quayside Office, approx 750m2
- Maintenance Facility, approx 2,000m2
Together with all associated external plant areas, external services and including quayside support services for specialist Vessels.
FHP developed the strategy and concept designs in close collaboration with the Siemens in-house wind turbine specialist teams from across Europe, to develop the facility capable of meeting the needs of the next generation wind turbine units.
As to expected of such a high profile development, the target of LEED excellent was set as the benchmark for the design, incorporating state of the art technologies and passive sustainable design solutions.
The main assembly plant was zoned to deal with the differing stages in production of the completed turbine units, some of which included large scale close control environmental conditions to meet production tolerances.
FHP also assisted in contributing to the overall programming and development cost for the scheme to assist in securing available grants and funding from both the UK Government and Euopean sources.
