Job Description

FHP is looking to appoint an Associate Mechanical Engineer into our Building Services Practice in London. Our need to recruit comes from the success of the business and the expected growth of FHP across a variety of sectors, including Residential, Hotels and Offices.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced mechanical design engineer at Associate / Principal level to work within a renowned consultancy, working on large scale projects. You should have the ability to lead projects and key clients and manage the mechanical engineering team.  You'll join a forward-thinking team, work in a collaborative environment, and will be given opportunities to make real contributions to the company.

Responsibilities
  • Lead projects and manage key clients

  • Assist the Director in tendering projects

  • Manage the mechanical team

  • Mentor mechanical engineers

  • Undertake Mechanical Building Services design

  • Preparation of design calculations on industry standard software

  • Preparation of technical specifications

  • Representing FHP at meetings with clients and contractors

  • Report writing

  • Maintaining records and archives to company standards

  • Checking design calculations, drawings and specifications prepared by others on a variety of buildings within different sectors i.e. schools, hotels, offices, leisure facilities, transportation buildings, Airports etc Preparing drawings for drafting by our in-house CAD team

  • Site surveys and inspections

  • Maintaining records and archives to company standards

  • Manage own workload and workload of others

  • Monitor site works

  • Preparing and managing fee budgets

  • Coordination between M&E disciplines across multi discipline team

  • Ensure mechanical design quality is maintained

  • Ensure delivery to budget

  • Input to and maintain set budgets for implementation of design elements Raise RFI’s during mechanical design development

  • Review development of established standard details and specifications

  • Manage production of standard mechanical details/specifications

  • Resource management across the mechanical package

  • Strategic technical decision making

  • Strategic technical direction to the mechanical team

  • Technical responsibility for Quality associated with mechanical deliverables

  • Review of all mechanical submissions

  • Ensure consistency of approach across package

  • Management of cross-team works

Desired Skills & Experience

Requirements
  • Minimum BEng or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or related subject/suitable equivalent experience.

  • Exceptional skill and knowledge of working in a design consultancy - experience of working within a contractor environment is additionally welcome.

  • Significant experience in the production of the Mechanical design across all RIBA Stages 0 to 7.

  • High level of technical skill in mechanical building services is essential.

  • Good level of computer literacy in Windows, Hevacomp, Amtech, IES, NES and Microsoft packages - an understanding of AutoCAD/Revit is beneficial

  • Wider knowledge of other disciplines highly desirable.

  • Capable of accurate work under pressure and able to work on several projects simultaneously.

  • Able to understand and express technical concepts in written and verbal language.

  • Able to innovate new solutions as well as applying existing solutions to problems.

  • Able to make decisions, act on own initiative and operate in a pro-active way.

  • Good report writing skills, experience of making presentations to and attending meetings with clients is essential.

  • Be willing to be mobile, travel within the UK and abroad for project related work
